Product Review - MyProtein Bites

Hey Guys,

Today I want to talk about Myprotein Bites.

MyProtein Bites are a high protein, easily transported source of protein that can be used as part of a meal or as a snack.

Here is what MyProtein had to say about them,

What are Protein Bites?

Protein Bites are a great tasting savoury snack providing over 15g of protein in each 30g pack. Protein Bites are a perfect snack for increasing daily protein intake when on the go, at home or at work and are a great snack choice when looking for an alternative source of protein to support your training goals. Protein Bites are moreish snacks and come in three deliciously tasting and natural flavours which include; Sour Cream and Spring Onion, Spicy Paprika and Chargrilled Chicken.

Benefits of Protein Bites

Protein Bites provide over 15g of protein per serving which will contribute to the growth and maintenance of lean mass. Protein Bites are also low in fat and sugar and provide just 110 calories per serving, making them an ideal choice of snack for anyone looking for a low calorie snack which is high in protein.

Who are Protein Bites Suitable for?

Protein Bites are recommended for anyone wanting a high protein savoury snack and for anyone looking to increase daily protein intake. Protein Bites are ideal to consume at any time throughout the day to increase daily protein intake and are a great alternative to unhealthy snacks such as biscuits or regular crisps.

Sounds pretty good! Pretty much anyone with any physique or performance goal could benefit from a snack that is low in calories and delivers a good amount of protein.

Lets have a closer look at the nutrition values as a whole and the ingredients (I reviewed the Spicy Paprika flavour however they are also available in Sour Cream and Onion and Chargrilled Chicken).

Spicy Paprika:
PER PACK (30g)
Energy (kJ/kcal): 457/109
Fat: 2.0g
of which saturates: 0.2g
Carbohydrates: 8.1g
of which sugars: 0.5g
Protein: 14.8g
Salt: 0.9g

Spicy Paprika:
Protein Blend (Soya Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate), Rice Flour, Peri Peri Chilli Flavour (Spices [Paprika, Cayenne, Smoked Paprika], Rice Flour, Salt, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Sugar, Dried Bell Pepper, Citric Acid, Herbs[Thyme, Parsley], Natural Flavouring, Natural Colour: Paprika), Iso-Malto Oligosaccharides, Rapeseed Oil, Mineral Calcium Carbonate, Antioxidants: Vitamin E and Rosemary Extract.
Ok so this looks pretty good! The snacks are pretty much all protein with very low fat and a slight amount of carbs (due to rice flour being used). The carbs are pretty much all fibre which is a good thing. The ingredients list is pretty good as well, however I would like to see rapeseed oil left out. This is way down on the list so we can assume it is only a small amount (I'm just being picky).
So what do they taste like?
Well I'm not keen on the taste. To me they just taste a little powdery. I did however take a few bags down to training and my training partners loved them (the whole box lasted about 2 mins), so I can safely say that they tasted alright!
The snacks are also great value for money as they are only £5.99 for 6 bags (clients get further discounts) and you can grab them from MyProtein.
Stay Healthy,
Mike
